Sorry about the lack of posts from me. The Pseudo Mansion was having some internet issues (again) and work has been kicking my butt.
However, at least I'm the bearer of good news. I fundamentally don't understand what's happening.

Ah, The USA Today. It's almost like a newspaper! Shifts in polling this wild says to me "this poll is not reliable." I find it hard to believe that McCain could seriously go from a seven point deficit to a ten point lead in the course of a week.
Or maybe people just really, really love Palin. I'm sure Mencken has an appropriate quote for this, but I'll leave it up to you guys to pick your favorite.
If these recent polls are reliable, then the conventional wisdom that people vote the top of the ticket is dead for McCain. She'd probably run against him in 2012 too.
This could certainly be the year that happens. The base never really liked McCain, but they sure do love Palin, if Ross Douthat is anyone to go by. The less Christian part of the Republicans seems pretty lukewarm towards McCain, too, but it's not like they'd ever really consider voting for a Democrat, especially one as traditional as Obama (all things considered).
